ShellShuffle
Made in 8 days for Godot Wild Jam #94 with the theme - Mutation!
Play as a turtle on a Punnet Square picking up genotypes and generating mutations! Can you get the coveted Gold Turtle mutation before your randomized enemy?
Please give our little game a try and let us know what you think! Especially if you have an improvement for accessibility as I want to get better at that in particular.
After the voting period I do intend to continue working on the game implement some ideas we had during the Jam but couldn't add because of the time limit, which are listen below!
Known Issues:
- If turtles are resting when the menu button is clicked on the pop-out side menu, they will keep their positions when you click play on the title menu
- Walls force player and enemy turtles out of the way upon generation
Restart doesn't prompt starting turtle menu to appear (I recommend exiting to menu and restarting from there. I'll try and fix this before voting starts)(Fixed)- Gold and Silver elemental elements are mixed up (I am stupid)
- After opening the tutorial and flipping through it, upon opening it again the page buttons are disabled and only first page of explanation is shown, this happens both from the main menu and in-game, (I recommend reloading your webpage to reset this)
Ideas for Future Updates:
New Features
- Randomized pegs spawning in the middle of the squares (much like the randomized walls) to throw off collisions
- Mutation Pickups give you a force boost to your next shot
- Randomized daily puzzle level
- Save data so you can see your current Personal Best
Quality of Life
- Squares updating with the color of the newly randomly generated square every round
- Bouncing off of collisions takes into account the angle instead of constantly being just a right-angle
- "+1% Mutation Chance" visual feedback upon every collision
- On-screen timer for each round/longer timers for each round or simply let turtles come to a natural momentum stop whichever feels best
- Every mutated randomized gene gives a new gene that is not currently on the board (to avoid spending 20+ rounds being in the 'bronze deathloop')
- Arrow shows the angle of your shot before release
- Mobile optimization
More options
- Ability to turn of specific sound effects, (i.e. power-up, mutation pick-up, etc.)
- Turn off wall/peg generation
Some misc. extra polish
- Percussion-only background music when choosing your turtle
- Intro theme replaying when you return to the menu
- Shadows under the player and enemy turtles for better visual contrast
- Added animations like sparkles for metal/silver/gold shells, or the turtles peeking their heads out and looking dizzy on idle
